What’s New in Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 3 Season 2

by | May 27, 2022

Season 2 of Chapter 3 is underway as of March 20, 2022! A new season in Fortnite means a whole bunch of changes to the games as well as many new additions to the game to spice up your time on Fortnite. In this blog, we’ll run you through what you can expect in the latest season of Fortnite Chapter 3

The new game mode

Probably the biggest changes in this new season of Fortnite is the new No Build game mode. That’s right, the very thing that sets Fortnite apart from every other battle royale out there has been taken away. A bold move by Epic Games, the new mode has been received quite well by players, with a new focus on weapons and traversal skill as well as a test of shooting mastery.

Initially, No Build mode was the only playable mode for battle royale, but as of writing, Epic has added back normal game modes. But for those who swore off building or are just not fans of that mechanic, now’s the chance to give Fortnite a try.

POI possession & IO Blimps

Story-wise, there have been a few changes around the map to make things a bit more interesting. You can now find IO blimps hovering above certain POIs where you can stop to stock up on weapons and loot, before heading down to the main battlefield.

On these blimps, you can also find certain NPCs who can reward you with special loot after taking them down.

In several POIs, you can also find IO forces and The Seven battling it out. Choose to join them or ignore them completely, but don’t be surprised if IO forces start firing at you when you come too close.

Meanwhile, The Daily Bugle can still be found on the map, introduced in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1.

Additional game mechanics

To complement the new No Build mode in this new season of Fortnite, some additional new game mechanics have been added as well. Since you can no longer throw up walls to defend yourself, every player now has an Overshield. This is your first line of defense: before your Shield or Health take a hit, it’s the Overshield that will crack first.

Without the ability to build, developers have added other ways to traverse the map and make movement easier. Sprinting is now faster along with the default moving speed being increased, so running around the map is a little easier even without building.

Players can now also mantle objects to help reach higher ground. If a platform is just a little too high for your jump, your hands come in to play to help pull you up. Pairing this with the ability to slide means that getting around the map and looting higher spaces is still totally doable! Remember: sliding down a hill or incline makes for really speedy movement.

Lastly, this new season of Fortnite has added in shoulder bashing to open doors for you. Simply sprint or slide into a door to bash it open. It may not be the subtlest of moves, but it looks damn cool.

Unvaulted weapons and new skins

Of course, as with every new season of Fortnite, there are new weapons like the Combat SMG and the Striker Burst Rifle. Some weapons have also been unvaulted (and slightly tweaked and balanced) such as:

  • Thermal Scoped Assault Rifle
  • Drum Shotgun
  • Revolver
  • Remote Explosives
  • Thermal Scoped Revolver
  • Storm Scout Sniper Rifle
  • Shockwave Grenades

In terms of skins, you can unlock six characters through the Battle Pass as well as another Marvel hero, Doctor Strange. As a follow up to last season’s addition of Spider Man, you can now also play as Dr. Stephen Strange, who comes with his own unique gliding animations.
